Sunday XI Captain, Wicketkeeper & General Mugsquad
After joining
Bournville as a 12 year old who enjoyed the Ashes of '05, it was clear
that he possessed very little natural cricketing ability. However, after
taking up wicket keeping because nobody else wanted to do it, he
managed to cling onto a spot in the side from the Under 13's to Under
17's. Over this time Nigel Clegg developed him into a genuine Wicket
keeper-Batsman, who showed signs of promise without delivering the
goods. The highlight of his youth career came when he deservedly won the
U17 Batsman of the Year for a prolific 20/20 campaign.
After
playing the occasional adult game, he somehow managed to progress into
the 2nd team, and again, showed signs of ability, frequently scoring
20's and 30's without getting to that elusive half century. His best
innings of the 2011 season came the day after celebrating his 18th
birthday, when he came within 1 run of his maiden fifty in what was an
inspired 92 run partnership with fellow snobs posse member DJ Budden. He
toured for the first time in 2011 and set a club record for unjustly
recieving 3 consecutive Dickhead of the Day awards.
Despite this
unusual sense of negativity, Perry looked forward to the 2012 season as
an opportunity to right the wrongs of 2011. His first real score of the
2012 season was a magical 93 against a brilliant bowling attack away at
Aston CC, which relieved him of his voodoo, and overtook Joe Cherry's
high score. Tour 2012 provided an in-form Perry the chance to tuck into some buffet
bowling at Bradninch and score a career best 149*, hitting an
overweight man in a mobility scooter in the process. This fine run of
form continued towards the end of the season, scoring two more 50's
before the conclusion of the 2012 season.
After spending the winter buying new kit, he returned from university in May 2013 to tackle the Sunday XI captaincy, which started badly, but looks to be improving.
