Bournville Cricket Club Won by 3 Wickets

Match report Batting Collapse, Girl skittles middle order and home by 6pm

Another wet week lead to a sunny day on Saturday as Bournville looked to continue their opening form with another win.

As Bournville inspected the pitch Calidcott TV was not in attendance, so there will be no highlights of the game this week. Sorry Viewers.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, there was split camp in the dressing room as a few favoured batting 1st rather than fielding, as Walmley 7ths had several Jnr players and had conceded runs all season, but a resolute batting display the previous week against Shenley Fields made Antoni want to bowl 1st.

As Bournville took to the field Spragg and Sanjay were passed the newish ball to make early inroads into Walmley and this was greeted with joy, as Bracey making his 1st 3rd team appearance of the season held on to a diving catch off Sanjay to remove the opening batsman.

Sanjay was not in full rhythm as various deliveries were wide or no balls as a few beamers were introduced straight from the Josh Spragg handbook.

Sanjay then captured his 2nd wicket as he clean bowled the other opening batsman as Spragg was bowling the best bowling of the season down the other end.

Spragg was then rewarded with a wicket himself as he had Shackelford caught LBW. The majority of the runs at this point were from the extra column; Sanjay bowling around the wicket took his 3rd victim as he had Davies Bowled.

Walmley were then 5 down as Josh took his 2nd wicket of the game as Bournville were on top in the match.

A Change of Bowling at both ends as Anders and Bracey entered the game, and Walmley looked to start to camp in as the runs dried up and the walls started to rise.

Anders also struggling from the top end then come around the wicket, and after a couple of boundary's Dan was rewarded as his slower ball bowled the bowl around his pads, as the ball hit leg stump giving Anders his 2nd wicket of the season.

Bracey was bowling very tight and Walmley struggled to play him, was rewarded at last as Guv held onto a catch to remove Pike who had settled in from the 1st few overs.

Another bowling changed as the GG's (Guv and Green) replaced Bracey and Anders simultaneously. Green was however reward instantly as the younger batsman of Walmley enjoyed the high flight of the ball and tried to take the attack to Bournville.

Guv then removed the Captain Chaundy for 17 after some resilience from Walmley.

A spectacular 1 handed catch from a leaping Bracey gave Green his 1st wicket of the game and Bournville looked to wrap up the innings quickly just after a quick drinks break.

The following over from drinks, Green wrapped up the innings by taking the last wicket reducing Walmley to 72 and gaining an additional 19 overs to score the runs.

After a spot of lunch Bournville were odds on to win (11/10 as per bet365 in-play odds) and gain another 20 points.

New opening pair Bracey and King Dev starts positively before Bracey was dismissed LBW by Shackleford for 3, in which sparked controversy between the Umpire and Out Going Batsman.

Tanveer making his 3rd team debut of the season entered at 3 and started to adjust quickly to minefield of the pitch.

King Dev and Tan were starting to become very settled until a low delivery bowled King Dev for 11. Bournville are used to having batting collapses and were hoping that this was not going to be one of them days.

The Captain was in next and returned back to his normal anchor role and was happy boring the other team with his forward defensive shots, and Tanveer started to open up and take the attack to the opposition.

Tanveer took a liking to the younger bowlers and anything that was short or full was punished with a barrage of 4s and a 6 to push Bournville closer to the win.

Things then took a turn for the worse, young female bowler Grace Chaundry then skittled through the middle order of Bournville as Antoni, Matty, Teflon and Sanjay were dismissed in a matter of 4 overs to make the game a little more even.

Luckily for Bournville Tanveer was well settled and was still scoring runs quickly as more boundary’s and another 6 was hit, pushing the score ever closer to the winners mark.

After a slight mix up in the middle Tanveer was dismissed for 42 run out, 3 times now in 2 weeks there has been a run out.

Bournville were now reliable on Anders and Guv to score the few runs that we needed to win.

A few overs late and Guv hit the winning run of the match to ensure 20 points for Bournville and ensured everyone could be home by 6pm. Ensuring Bournville remain 2nd in the table.

Yet again Bournville were involved in another tense match up which seems to be the on-going trend these days, ever since Teflon put the curse on the team at the start of the season saying “he hopes no other game this season is as tense as this”.

The usual air traffic was in attendance, but it seemed that fewer planes travelled over today.

The news of Anders taking a wicket in the game must have gone around quickly as this brought 3 ‘Local’ Teenage Girls chanting their love for him on 2 occasions as they walked past hoping to get a glimmer of his legendary fielding in action.
