Bournville Cricket Club 3rd XI v Aston Unity 3 on Sat 17 Aug 2013 at 13:00
Bournville Cricket Club Won by 90 runs
Declaration, vital victory and a Ton to celebrate
Bournville playing back at home with 4 games remaining and home advantage for 3 games could set Bournville up with a big promotion push if results were to go our way.
Persistent rain all week was starting to look like the winner again as weather forecasts were set for rain all day, fortunately the weather man was wrong and only the odd spell of light rain happened today.
Playing Aston Unity for the 1st time this season, as the reverse fixture was washed out, Bournville were asked to bat in very overcast conditions.
Opening pair Antoni and Nigel took to the crease, and averaging 48 as an opening partnership were looking to emulate this and set a good platform for Bournville.
Nigel and Antoni started to score quickly with a flow of boundaries and a few quick 1s and 2s as a slowish outfield prevailed. Antoni then looked to play a cut shot and edged behind, only for Anders to call a no ball, with a much relieved Antoni. Could he go on a put a big score on the board to make Aston Unity pay?
Bournville were sitting pretty at 44-0 then Antoni got a good delivery which he nicked behind, this time it was legitimate delivery. Antoni dismissed for 18 and this is another innings of doing all the hard work of getting in and then out.
Next man in was The Bee Keeper Dave Human, who could tell you the type of bee just by hearing its buzz noise and is looking forward to releasing his Bee Soundtrack CD later in the year, but unavailable to download on itunes.
Dave scoring a quick fire 5 runs before he was clean bowled by Pratt, moments after scoring a typical Dave Human boundary.
But this innings was all set for Raj and Nigel to score big. Raj and Nigel playing in typical fashion of scoring big runs and looking to up the run rate four Bournville. Boundary after Boundary after Boundary was scored and the partnership was looking good.
Raj as he usually does quickly caught up to Nigel’s score in his own unique style and fashion including hitting a big 6 on the way.
Nigel past 50 and looking to convert this into a Ton, and had plenty of overs left to do so.
Raj and Nigel also running well between the wicket as the slow outfield prevented more boundaries from being scored. Raj then passed his 50 also for the 1st time this season and was looking to press on further to try and enforce a declaration at 40 overs.
Nigel smashed a big 6 as he was also looking to get the score over 200 before 40 overs.
Raj and Nigel were neck and neck with few runs between then until Raj was clean bowled for 77, and putting on a partnership of around 150 runs with Nigel. Raj is now just 4 runs away from reaching 300 runs this season.
Teflon was now in and looking to add to his batting performance from the previous week by scoring a few runs, and so he did scoring 3 quick runs immediately, and looking very proud of himself that he never got another duck.
The moment the team was waiting for as Nigel reached his 100.
What an amazing innings this was, 62 runs in boundaries and a lot of quick 2s and 3s with Raj to ensure he reached the 3 figures and scoring his 1st ever 100 and Bournville 3s 1st of the season.
Once the over had been completed Antoni declared giving Bournville another 5 overs to bowl with and a total of 233 for Aston Unity to chase to win.
Congratulations Nigel this has been a well-deserved 100 and has been a long time coming.
Let the chase begin. Bournville fielding with 10 as Mo Aslam has twisted his Ankle and later found out it has been fractured.
Raj also on tight schedule had to get in some early overs before Bournville were reduced to 9 in the field. Raj opening the first time with Guv and it was a successful opening partnership as Guv struck early, thanks to a fantastic catch from Teflon diving down to his right to dismiss the opener Sprason.
Raj left wicket-less but his runs with the bat were vital to the declaration to allow the possible additional overs to force a win in this game.
The enforcer Sanjay replaced Raj, and Sanjay instantly took a wicket like he usually does to dismiss Willis. A few deliveries later and Sanjay took his 2nd victim of the match to put big pressure on Aston Unity.
Aston Unity blocking there was through this game, gaining off wides and byes, as Bournville had no 3rd man or fine leg.
On comes Anders, looking to overtake Antoni in the wickets list and manages to buy a wicket as he clean bowls Stonebridge with his slower delivery which the batsmen could have played 4 or 5 shots to by the time it hit the stumps.
Sanjay bowling tight as usual gets several edges that zip past both Teflon and Antoni in slip as Sanjay starts to rev up his pace. Sanjay then clean bowls Flynn with a full pitched delivery which knocks back middle stump.
Captain Peters is resilient to Sanjay and enjoys blocking him for fun. Dan however in the meantime gets his 2nd wicket trapping Anwar LBW., putting him level on wickets taken with Antoni, and 3 behind Raj in 2nd place.
Sanjay the pops up with his 4th wicket of the game to take his wicket total for the season to-date to 26 and hoping to get to 30 before the season ends. Sanjay clean bowling Pratt for 9 and reducing Aston unity to 7 down with 2 to go for victory to ensure 24 points.
Antoni then comes on to bowl his part time legish spin, and Captain Peters and Bucknall take to him as boundaries are scored freely to push Aston unity over the 100 mark and gain a batting point.
Bournville are now struggling for a wicket as Sanjay, Anders and Guv have used up all their overs, and with little bowling left in the team with Aston Unity set on blocking out. Antoni calls up debutant Cameron to try and buy a wicket, but unfortunately is unable to take a wicket.
Centurion Nigel is then called up with his part time off spin to try and grab a wicket to make the day even better for him but has little effect.
Drinks are called at 40 overs as the weather for time being had not been so bad with the odd rain shower.
Antoni rallies the team and decides to bring himself back on. A short hop delivery is smashed out to the cover boundary, and is caught in deep by Nigel White without a juggle being required to take the catch.
This was the breakthrough that the team needed and Antoni was completely unaware Nigel had moved out deep. The final wicket fell in Antoni’s next over as he clean bowled the positive Bucknall with a full straight delivery that clean bowled the batsmen.
Much to the delight of Anders, Antoni had matched his 2 wickets and pulled 2 clear, and with Anders knowing Antoni will not be available next week will be his chance to cease on the opportunity to overtake him!!! We will find out next week if this will happen, you can vote yes or no by going to Calidcott-TV.dan.anders.com to cast your vote now.
A vital victory was well deserved and 24 points for Bournville which has kept them within a chance of promotion by moving up to 3rd.
Man of the Match: Who else but Nigel White. A fine innings which will be remebered for years and a vital catch of the penultimate wicket to set up this victory.
